Accident Checklist

11 Oct

Automobile collisions are typically pretty stressful situations.  In the moment you are so full of adrenaline and often uncertain of exactly what happened.  These moments are often hard to stay calm and collected however your next few steps are very important and may also help prevent you from paying for damages you aren’t responsible for.

Take a deep breath and try and collect yourself, this will allow you to calm down and more effectively communicate with the other individual(s) as they are most likely stressed as well.

  • Take photos of everything!! This includes your vehicle, the other vehicles involved, license plates of all vehicles and any other items you could have collided with.  Additionally taking photos of the actual scene could potentially help show who was at fault.  These photos may help you.
  • Trading information is critical in any accident and you should write down:
    • Driver’s license information
    • Insurance information and if possible take a picture of the insurance card
    • License plate number
    • Names and phone numbers of any witnesses
  • If at any point during the process you feel unsafe, are having a difficult time working with the other individual, or if there is an emergency at hand you need to call 911 immediately and seek assistance from the police. Also any damage over $700.00 must be reported to the police.

These tips are good to fall back on in those intense moments following an accident.  We understand how stressful accidents can be and are here to answer any questions you may have.
