Paint Care Tips

27 Jul

Here at Juanita collision center our goal is to not only make your car run and operate perfectly but to make your car look great and remain that way for the rest of its life.  Here are some tips for keeping that fresh paint coat brand new.

  • When you wash your car make sure to do so using cool water and a mild car wash solution. Most commercial brand car washes are abrasive and can cause damage to the paint finish.
  • Avoid washing with stiff brushes, sponges they are more prone to cause scratches.  Instead try using a soft sponge and rinse with clean water often to prevent dirt scratching the paint and leaving marks
  • Always rinse the car before washing and make sure the car is wet when cleaning this will prevent scraping the dirt
  • Never wash your car while it is siting in the sun. Doing so in the shade is much better for the paint coat
  • In the first 30 days following paint avoid polish or wax, this will allow the finish to cure properly.  Additionally avoid wax or polishes that contain silicone.
  • Plan out your trips and avoid traveling in very extreme weather conditions or on gravel roads the first 30 days following pain, if at all possible.  These conditions will be hard on the fresh paint.
    • Additionally not scraping off ice or snow in the first thirty days is important to protect the finish.
  • Avoid parking under trees where sap or bird droppings may land on your paint, and if you notice either item on your car act promptly and clean them off as quickly as possible. They will eat through your cars paint and leave metal spots susceptible to rusting.
  • If any gas or diesel ever gets on your car rinse it off with cool water, do not wipe it or smear it.

We hope these tips will help aid you in keeping your vehicle looking new as ever, no matter its age.
